Description
Wild Tulip – Tulipa Sylvestris Bulbs
The beautiful species Tulip, Tulipa sylvestris, has a light scent and a bright yellow flower. This Tulip, while not native to the UK, is great for naturalising in a lawn or a border being a reliable, perennial species here, it also takes well to larger containers.
Delicate, cup shaped yellow flowers with a green blush on the outside of the petals flower in March and April. The Wild Tulip can reach 25-35cm on brownish stems and strap like green leaves. Plant in a sunny, sheltered spot, they are easy to grow in a well-drained fertile soil in loam, sand or clay, and will multiply where happy. They enjoy positions in gravel and rock gardens as well as lawns, borders, and containers in sunny, sheltered positions.
The Wild Tulip dislikes wet soils and may rot or be susceptible to bulb rot or Tulip Fire in these conditions.
