Description
Lent Lily Daffodil – Narcissus ‘Lobularis’ Bulbs
Narcissus ‘Lobularis’ is a small beautiful daffodil that is great for naturalising.
This is a natural species of daffodil which can be somewhat variable but usually sports white or cream perianth with a light twist and a yellow trumpet which it carries in a slightly downwards, nodding aspect making it look quite demure at times. It is of course perfectly stout and hardy as you might expect from a species daffodil but, like many others in it’s horticultural group, it gives an excellent performance while maintaining a more delicate look to that of the larger daffodils.
The Lent Lily grows to around 20cm on strong green stems and strap like leaves, the nodding flowers are 7cm when open in March-April. Plant in a sunny spot or part shade, they are easy to grow in a well-drained fertile soil and will multiply by seed and bulb where happy making it ideal for naturalising. ‘Lobularis’ is also ideal for containers, borders, lawns, woodlands, hedgerows, and rock or gravel gardens.
When undisturbed they will give you years of pleasure each spring with their graceful flowers, they don’t do well when disturbed so plant them somewhere they can just do their own thing where possible.
‘Lobularis’ will quite easily hybridise with ‘Obvallaris’ and others in the Narcissus pseudonarcissus group when planted together so if you are happy with that you could end up with lots of cheerful little yellow daffodils, if not, it’s best to stick with just the one.
The bulbs of this species is much smaller than normal Daffodil bulbs, the bulbs you will receive are flowering size for this species.
