Description
House Martin Nest Box Bowl – Double
Made from strong Woodstone and wood these house martin nest bowls will provide a practical and long lasting nesting site for House Martins.
Woodstone is a concrete and wood fibre mix so it can be moulded to the right shape to attract House Martin pairs. It offers a durable insulated nesting space for raising the next generation, giving them a great start in life. The nesting bowls are permanently mounted on wood from sustainable sources so it is easy to site and fix to an appropriate wall straight away so you can be ready to welcome the House Martins in April when they start to arrive from Africa.
House Martins build nests mainly from mud and saliva but there is a real shortage of the appropritate kinds of mud for them to use. UPVC is too smooth so even if they manage to build a nest against it, anything could dislodge it so boxes and bowls like these are readily taken up by these active birds.
Siting and Positioning:
It is suitable for sheltered spot against a wall right up under the eaves of the house so they overhang the bowls. North and East facing walls may be preferred by the birds where possible. These nesting bowls must be fitted tight to the wall with strong screws (not supplied). Do not attach to the soffits.
Cleaning:
If you want to clean them you will need to remove the wood and bowls from the wall. There is access behind the bowls to clean them out before replacing the bowls and wood fixture back secre into place.
Cleaning should be done between breeding seasons and please do not disturb the birds while the box is being used
